Besides its use as random-access ROM, NOR flash can also be used as a storage device, by taking advantage of random-access programming. Some devices offer read-while-write functionality so that code continues to execute even while a program or erase operation is occurring in the background. For sequential data writes, NOR flash chips typically have slow write speeds, compared with NAND flash.

While the SD Association (the group that defines SD card technology) doesn’t release exact speed standards for card classes to non-members, it does offer loose guidelines for which classes are acceptable various uses. Class 2 is suitable for standard-definition video recording, while Class 4 and Class 6 can record high-definition video. Class 10 is the card for HD video and “HD still consecutive recording,” which, like the classes’ speeds, is ill-defined. According to Sandisk, UHS-1 SD cards can transfer up to 45MBps, and according to the SD Association, the maximum transfer speed based on the interface bus used is 310MBps (though this limit won’t be reached by cards for a long time, likely after several faster UHS speed classes are defined).

I’m sure you could still find a new GameCube at your local electronics or gaming store. Try EBgames, GameStop, or even a BestBuy. New ones should run you $99 or less, but a used one could be as cheap as $50. If you have the money though, you might want to just invest in a Wii since it’s backwards compatible anyways.

But before you take things into 6th gear; is your camera capable of the fastest speed out there? Probably not. The turbo speeds out there (such as Class 10 cards) are usually aimed at video cameras producing movies which need to write as much data as possible every second. You need to make sure your camera can utilise all the speed your card can deliver, if not it goes to waste and so will your money. Consult your instruction manual or search the manufacturer’s website for the fastest card speed supported.

Bought this for me and my wife shortly after we bought a GameCube (to relive our childhood) a little less than 2 years ago.
