My experience with this 64MB Memory Card is with a Wii used to play GameCube games. There are lots of good reviews but when I used the card, the GameCube did not recognize the card at all. After reading the 3/2/1 star reviews, I saw that: (1) The card seems to perform much better with an actual GameCube (2) People were able to get the card working with the Wii by wiggling it around (not really a good sign) (3) People have had corruption issues with the card – usually with the Wii. After searching around, I found that even Nintendo larger capacity cards have this problem with the Wii. The recommendation is to use the low capacity Nintendo cards which are priced fairly low. After all of that, I tried this 64MB card again and it is working – which is why I am giving 3 stars. I also ordered the Nintendo lower capacity card and will switch over to it when it arrives (for reliability).

What’s even scarier – the dead device becomes very hot when plugged in! To me, this indicates that the reader was NOT designed for becoming hot, and became damaged from the heat. Furthermore, it means that the power circuitry is faulty – why would a non-working device draw that much power to become painfully hot? Because of these problems, it becomes very dangerous to plug into a computer. Most modern computers come with current protection to prevent anything bad from happening due to faulty devices, but I wouldn’t take that chance.

There are 2 options I am aware of: use the Win 10 option to back out the upgrade and go back to the last OS, or buy a new external card reader that plugs into a USB port [and live without the built-in card slot]. The Insignia NS-DCR30A2 USB 3.0 Multiformat Memory Card Reader I bought at Best Buy also works with USB 2 and reads my cards up to and including the 64GB SDXC. (An older external reader I had would not handle the 32 and 64GB cards.)

  1. The higher speed rates are achieved by using a two-lane low voltage (0.4 V pp) differential interface. Each lane is capable of transferring up to 156 MB/s. In full duplex mode, one lane is used for Transmit while the other is used for Receive. In half duplex mode both lanes are used for the same direction of data transfer allowing a double data rate at the same clock speed. In addition to enabling higher data rates, the UHS-II interface allows for lower interface power consumption, lower I/O voltage and lower electromagnetic interference (EMI).
    Dave, thanks.  There wasn’t an item as you suggested under “disk drives” – but after rebooting the notebook with the SD Card inserted,  I can now see an SD Host Adaptor (“SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller”).

    Based on the above and other problem reports, it appears that Dell, Asus, and Lenovo are not updating their SD drivers. I could not find a new driver on the Dell site and found a note indicating that there was no intention to update the driver for my XPS. What did Microsoft do in Windows 10 to discourage these manufacturers from updating their SD reader drivers?

  2. Some consumer-grade flash memory cards are used by companies to cache reads and writes with hybrid flash storage. Enterprise MLC is an MLC NAND variant with enhanced write cycles compared to consumer-grade MLC.     NAND flash has reduced erase and write times, and requires less chip area per cell, thus allowing greater storage density and lower cost per bit than NOR flash; it also has up to 10 times the endurance of NOR flash. However, the I/O interface of NAND flash does not provide a random-access external address bus.
