By the time the version 2.0 (SDHC) specification was completed in June 2006, vendors had already devised 2 GB and 4 GB SD cards, either as specified in Version 1.01, or by creatively reading Version 1.00. The resulting cards do not work correctly in some host devices.
Several manufacturers make microSD cards and they consume different amounts of electrical power. Most are in the range of 0-100 mA at a supply voltage of 3.3 V. TwinMos technologies says that the cards carry a maximum of 45 mA during transfer. Toshiba lists 80-100 mA.
Worked fine for about 90 days then started showing “reading card” on start ups and suddenly NOTHING. From other reviews it appears to be a common problem with Samsung Galaxy phones. I have a S3 and Note II and the card no longer works on either. If you have the same combo and are coming up on 90 days, backup everything frequently and wait for “Sudden Death”, other than that its a great value IF SanDisk PAYS YOU to use it. To be fair perhaps Samsung is part of the problem – but so far no one appears to be part of a solution.

Like its predecessor, the Nintendo 64, GameCube models were produced in several different color motifs. Nintendo sold 22 million GameCube units worldwide during its lifespan, placing it slightly behind the Xbox’s 24 million, and well behind the PlayStation 2’s 153 million. The GameCube’s predecessor, the Nintendo 64, outperformed it as well selling nearly 33 million units. The console was able to outsell the short-lived Dreamcast, however, which yielded 9.13 million unit sales. In September 2009, IGN ranked the GameCube 16th in its list of best gaming consoles of all time, placing it behind all three of its sixth-generation competitors: the PlayStation 2 (3rd), the Dreamcast (8th), and the Xbox (11th). As of March 31, 2003, the GameCube had sold 9.55 million units worldwide, falling short of Nintendo’s initial goal of 10 million consoles.

After researching nearly 50 USB-C SD readers, we tested 12 models that met our requirements in December 2016 and three new models in July 2017. We also looked for models with promising user reviews, although the category is so new that many of the ones we tested don’t have any yet. Then we plugged them into a MacBook Pro (13-inch, late 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports) and a 2016 Dell XPS 13 (we used a 2017 Dell XPS 15 for our most recent tests) and used AJA System Test and CrystalDiskMark to test their speeds with a SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-II SD card, a SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-II microSD card, and a SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash Card. The test results presented here are from our tests on a Windows laptop; our Mac tests were identical, except where noted.

Using your computer, create a folder called “DCIM” to the root of your SD card (or microSD). 3. Copy the images/videos into the DCIM folder. 4. Rename each image/video file like this “GOPRXXXX”, where XXXX is a unique and incrementing number. For example, if you had one JPG file and one .MOV file, name them GOPR0001.JPG and GOPR0002.MOV. Incrementing numbers may not be required, but “GOPR” + 4 numeric characters are. 5. Safely eject SD card from computer, plug Reader into the iOS device, place SD card into the Reader, and Photos app should open. If you’re file naming is acceptable, Import will remain open and allow you to view/import the files. Import and you’re done! Note #1: Other common digital-camera file naming conventions will most likely work. Note #2: I’ve successfully imported several image filetypes: .jpg, .png, .raw. And these video types: .mov, .m4v, .MP4. I am sure many more will work. Also, you can have a mix of filetypes on the SD card simultaneously, and the import will work. For example, import will work with .jpg and .png and .m4v files on the card at the same time. This reader itself deserves 4 or 5 stars. It worked for me with several microSDHC cards of various levels of quality, each using a different SD adapter. However, it’s the Photos app I find problematic. The Photos->Import feature requires a strict file structure like the one given above. A file named wookie_wants_cookie.jpg won’t import. Why can’t it be intelligent enough to accept any filename? I’m sure you could still find a new GameCube at your local electronics or gaming store. Try EBgames, GameStop, or even a BestBuy. New ones should run you $99 or less, but a used one could be as cheap as $50. If you have the money though, you might want to just invest in a Wii since it’s backwards compatible anyways.
Flash memory was first introduced in 1980 and developed by Dr. Fujio Masuoka, an inventor and mid level factory manager at Toshiba Corporation (TOSBF). Flash memory was named after its capability to erase a block of data “”in a flash.” Dr. Masuoka’s objective was to create a memory chip preserving data when the power was turned off. Dr. Masuoka also invented a type of memory known as SAMOS and developed a 1Mb dynamic random access memory (DRAM). In 1988, Intel Corporation produced the first commercial NOR-type flash chip, which replaced the permanent read-only memory (ROM) chip on PC motherboards containing the basic input/output operating system (BIOS).
NOTE: As other buyers state, this item say’s Wii memory card on the packaging it comes in. This memory card is actually for a system called Nintendo GameCube. It does work on the Wii but only to save Nintendo Gamecube Games. If you’re looking for a Wii memory card for Wii games, that would an SD card you’re looking for.
Most NAND devices are shipped from the factory with some bad blocks. These are typically marked according to a specified bad block marking strategy. By allowing some bad blocks, the manufacturers achieve far higher yields than would be possible if all blocks had to be verified good. This significantly reduces NAND flash costs and only slightly decreases the storage capacity of the parts.
Flash memory is a non-volatile memory chip used for storage and for transfering data between a personal computer (PC) and digital devices. It has the ability to be electronically reprogrammed and erased. It is often found in USB flash drives, MP3 players, digital cameras and solid-state drives.
Most modern microcontrollers have built-in SPI logic that can interface to an SD card operating in its SPI mode, providing non-volatile storage. Even if a microcontroller lacks the SPI feature, the feature can be emulated by bit banging. For example, a home-brew hack combines spare General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO) pins of the processor of the Linksys WRT54G router with MMC support code from the Linux kernel. This technique can achieve throughput of up to 1.6 Mbit/s.
All SD cards let the host device determine how much information the card can hold, and the specification of each SD family gives the host device a guarantee of the maximum capacity a compliant card reports.
By repeating deletion and write of files, data area is gradually fragmented and it influences write speed. Generally, write speed to a fragmented area is slower than sequential write speed due to flash memory characteristics. In an era when memory capacity is not large enough, fragmented write needed to be considered. However, high capacity memory card is available at this time, Speed Class write is defined to perform sequential writes to a completely un-fragmented area (called “Free AU”). It makes Speed Class controls of host easy. On the other hand, even unused memory exists in total, there is a possibility that host cannot perform Speed Class recording. In that case, data arrangement to reduce fragmented area or move data to anther storage to re-format the card will be required. Video Speed Class supports “Suspend/Resume” function that can stop and retrieve sequential write. By using the function, it is possible to improve memory usage ratio considerably.
