Flash memory incorporates the use of floating-gate transistors to store data. Floating-gate transistors, or floating gate MOSFET (FGMOS), is similar to MOSFET, which is a transistor used for amplifying or switching electronic signals. Floating-gate transistors are electrically isolated and use a floating node in direct current (DC). Flash memory is similar to the standard MOFSET, except the transistor has two gates instead of one.
A host device can ask any inserted SD card for its 128-bit identification string (the Card-Specific Data or CSD). In standard-capacity cards (SDSC), 12 bits identify the number of memory clusters (ranging from 1 to 4,096) and 3 bits identify the number of blocks per cluster (which decode to 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, or 512 blocks per cluster). The host device multiplies these figures (as shown in the following section) with the number of bytes per block to determine the card’s capacity in bytes.

This card writes at a C4 speed (as indicated by the number 4 encircled by a C on the label). It’s a decent speed for smaller files, but considering a RAW photo files can be rather large, if you’re shooting high res, RAW files, this is not the card for you. It will absolutely freeze up your camera.

I ordered the IOGEAR SD/MicroSD/MMC Card Reader/Writer GFR204SD and got it in the mail about three days after ordering [impressive]. As some other reviewers have noted, it does feel a little flimsy, and care should be taken to insert and remove it AS STRAIGHT AS YOU CAN from whatever device you use it in, especially when it’s a very tight fit into the USB port.
CompactFlash cards are the oldest memory card format still in normal use. While not very common in most cameras currently available on the market, they can sometimes be found in top-end professional models. Higher write speeds mean that these cards are ideal for high-resolution video or burst photography.
I have had the same problem with my Dell XPS L502x but the SD card reader will read the slow cards 4gb but when I put a 32 GB xtream it will not read so I have to use a USB card reader , I also have trouble now with the integrated web-cam this will not work through the Windows applications but have done a test online and it works, I have tried bios upgrades and there are no updates on the drives so like we all have been left high and dry !!

On April 22, 2002, veteran third party Nintendo console developer Factor 5 announced its 3D audio software development kit for GameCube developers, MusyX. In collaboration with Dolby Laboratories, it provides motion-based surround sound encoded as Dolby Pro Logic II.

A hybrid version of the Nintendo GameCube with a commercial DVD player, called Q, was developed by Panasonic as part of the deal struck with Nintendo to develop the optical drive for the original GameCube hardware. Featuring a completely revised case, the Q overcomes the size limitation of the original GameCube’s miniDVD tray by adding a commercial DVD-sized tray, among other hardware revisions. Released exclusively to Japan in December 2001, low sales resulted in the Q being discontinued in December 2003.

My experience with this 64MB Memory Card is with a Wii used to play GameCube games. There are lots of good reviews but when I used the card, the GameCube did not recognize the card at all. After reading the 3/2/1 star reviews, I saw that: (1) The card seems to perform much better with an actual GameCube (2) People were able to get the card working with the Wii by wiggling it around (not really a good sign) (3) People have had corruption issues with the card – usually with the Wii. After searching around, I found that even Nintendo larger capacity cards have this problem with the Wii. The recommendation is to use the low capacity Nintendo cards which are priced fairly low. After all of that, I tried this 64MB card again and it is working – which is why I am giving 3 stars. I also ordered the Nintendo lower capacity card and will switch over to it when it arrives (for reliability).
At initial power-up or card insertion, the host device selects either the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) bus or the one-bit SD bus by the voltage level present on Pin 1. Thereafter, the host device may issue a command to switch to the four-bit SD bus interface, if the SD card supports it. For various card types, support for the four-bit SD bus is either optional or mandatory.
The GameCube features two memory card ports for saving game data. Nintendo released three official memory card options: Memory Card 59 in gray (512 KB), Memory Card 251 in black (2 MB), and Memory Card 1019 in white (8 MB). (Though often advertised in Megabits, as 4 Mb, 16 Mb, and 64 Mb respectively.) A few games were known to have compatibility issues with the Memory Card 1019, and at least two games have save issues with any size. Memory cards with larger capacities were released by third-party manufacturers.
Many ASICs are pad-limited, meaning that the size of the die is constrained by the number of wire bond pads, rather than the complexity and number of gates used for the device logic. Eliminating bond pads thus permits a more compact integrated circuit, on a smaller die; this increases the number of dies that may be fabricated on a wafer, and thus reduces the cost per die.

Micro SD cards were initially a popular method of storing images in mobile phones. In actual size they are the smallest commercially available memory card at 15×11×1mm but can store up to 2GB of information. The Micro SDHC versions are able to store much larger files from 4GB-32GB. Micro SD cards are now more commonly seen in GPS systems and MP3 players, however a small number of digital cameras (recent Samsung compact models) are also compatible with them.
It’s the most compact card reader we tested, measuring 2.4 by 1 by 0.4 inches and weighing just 0.3 ounces. The Cable Matters also has an attached, 6-inch cable and a pleasant blue indicator light on top so you know when it’s in use. In testing we found—after wasting time trying to insert them right-side up—that the slots are oriented so you have to insert both SD cards and microSD cards upside down for the card reader to identify them. Lastly, three racing games have LAN multiplayer modes: 1080° Avalanche, Kirby Air Ride, and Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. These three games can be forced over the internet with third-party PC software capable of tunneling the GameCube’s network traffic.
I looked on Estarland, Lukiegames, Disc Replay and various other stores and this one was honestly the best deal around. I got two of them because I just revamped my game cube games and this was a great buy, it gives you the max amount of memory for half the price. The ones I got were black and also the first time I plugged it in it didn’t read but then I took it out and blew on it and then giggled it and it has been perfect ever since. I use it in my wii and I couldn’t be happier.

The higher speed rates are achieved by using a two-lane low voltage (0.4 V pp) differential interface. Each lane is capable of transferring up to 156 MB/s. In full duplex mode, one lane is used for Transmit while the other is used for Receive. Toshiba lists 264–330 mW (80–100 mA). Standby current is much lower, less than 0.2 mA for one 2006 microSD card. If there is data transfer for significant periods, battery life may be reduced noticeably (smartphones typically have batteries of capacity around 6 Wh (Samsung Galaxy S2, 1650 mAh @ 3.7 V)).
