I have done it and it works… Go into disk management (word of warning my issue might have been different from yours.). You should see your sd card reader. I fixed this by right clicking on the large box which corresponds to the sd card at the bottom of the window and I clicked “Change drive letter and paths” assign a letter and you should be fine if your issue is the same as mine.

It is the smallest memory card that can be bought; at 15 mm × 11 mm × 1 mm (about the size of a fingernail), it is about a quarter of the size of a normal-sized SD card. A host device can lock an SD card using a password of up to 16 bytes, typically supplied by the user. A locked card interacts normally with the host device except that it rejects commands to read and write data. A locked card can be unlocked only by providing the same password. The host device can, after supplying the old password, specify a new password or disable locking. Without the password (typically, in the case that the user forgets the password), the host device can command the card to erase all the data on the card for future re-use (except card data under DRM), but there is no way to gain access to the existing data.
A fairer and more recent system is the ‘class rating’. The SD Association created the speed class rating test which focuses on finding the absolute minimum data transfer rate of SD/SDHC/SDXC cards, as opposed to a sustainable rate.

Well, Nintendo’s most recent official confirmation about the production of the GC was revealed only 2 months ago. And they said it’s still produced. If it was out of production, don’t you think they would say something? They haven’t said anything about the GC since then. Again, the last time they did they said it’s still produced and that wasn’t very long ago.
Intel Corporation introduced the first commercial NOR type flash chip in 1988. NOR-based flash has long erase and write times, but provides full address and data buses, allowing random access to any memory location. This makes it a suitable replacement for older read-only memory (ROM) chips, which are used to store program code that rarely needs to be updated, such as a computer’s BIOS or the firmware of set-top boxes. Its endurance may be from as little as 100 erase cycles for an on-chip flash memory, to a more typical 10,000 or 100,000 erase cycles, up to 1,000,000 erase cycles. NOR-based flash was the basis of early flash-based removable media; CompactFlash was originally based on it, though later cards moved to less expensive NAND flash.
A card’s read speed describes how fast data can be retrieved from a card. This performance is seen when transferring card contents to computers and printers for example. A faster read speed will transfer images to your computer more rapidly also (depending on how the SD card is wired up to the computer, as a direct connection vs USB 2 vs FireWire 800 vs USB 3 will make a significant difference also, as will, potentially, your hard disk or SSD storage memory speed).

Well I really didn’t think this topic would generate such intense controversy. I thought it would be relativley straightforward and easy to find out the answer, but I guess things are more complicated than that. Hopefully we’ll get an official comment from Nintendo about it one or another. I personally don’t care if they discontinue it, I’m not going to be offended by that decision, I just wish they were more upfront about it.
I’m not a tech wiz but I’m by no means a complete moron when it comes to technology but I was somewhat distressed to find how little I knew about memory cards. I had received one with a little no frills digital camera a few years ago & had used them already but a recent faux pas brought my ignorance to light. I was at one of my daughter’s competitions with my little Panasonic video camera intending to record her show (she does color guard). We had bought the video camera a couple of years ago. It needed a memory card so I just took the one out of my other camera thinking that’s what I needed. Here’s where not realizing the difference between MB and GB ruined my plans.Trying to record the show, I kept getting the message that the memory was full. Turns out… The card was just 512MB! Those of you in the know are laughing I’m sure…yep, that may be fine for photos but NOT video..So after finding out 1 GB is roughly the same as 1000 MB, I knew what to look for. This card has a good amount of memory. I’ve recorded several of my daughter’s routines and still show as having just under half the memory available. I also have found that you get what you pay for. I bought a generic card that didn’t work and another that got corrupted quickly so I only trust SanDisk now! My next step is getting a 32GB and having a backup card at all times!
The command interface is an extension of the MultiMediaCard (MMC) interface. SD cards dropped support for some of the commands in the MMC protocol, but added commands related to copy protection. By using only commands supported by both standards until determining the type of card inserted, a host device can accommodate both SD and MMC cards.
Toshiba developed flash memory from EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory) in the early 1980s and introduced it to the market in 1984. The two main types of flash memory are named after the NAND and NOR logic gates. The individual flash memory cells exhibit internal characteristics similar to those of the corresponding gates.
The first Satechi Type-C SD and microSD Card Reader unit we tested did not recognize SD or microSD cards on three different Windows laptops. The second unit we tested read SD cards only with the “Satechi” logo facing down, and it read microSD cards only with the logo facing up. When it did work, it had slow SD and microSD speeds between 30 MB/s and 40 MB/s when they should have been about twice that.
NAND was developed by Toshiba a year after NOR was produced. It is faster, has a lower cost per bit, requires less chip area per cell and has added resilience. The shelf life of a NAND gate is approximately 100,000 write/erase cycles. In NOR gate flash every cell has an end connected to a bit line and the other end connected to a ground. If a word line is “high” then the transistor proceeds to lower the output bit line.
In NOR flash, each cell has one end connected directly to ground, and the other end connected directly to a bit line. This arrangement is called “NOR flash” because it acts like a NOR gate: when one of the word lines (connected to the cell’s CG) is brought high, the corresponding storage transistor acts to pull the output bit line low. NOR flash continues to be the technology of choice for embedded applications requiring a discrete non-volatile memory device. The low read latencies characteristic of NOR devices allow for both direct code execution and data storage in a single memory product.
It’s the most compact card reader we tested, measuring 2.4 by 1 by 0.4 inches and weighing just 0.3 ounces. Most consumer products that take an SD card expect that it is partitioned and formatted in this way. Universal support for FAT12, FAT16, FAT16B, and FAT32 allows the use of SDSC and SDHC cards on most host computers with a compatible SD reader, to present the user with the familiar method of named files in a hierarchical directory tree.

Neither the Kanex USB-C Card Reader nor the Plugable USB Type-C Flash Memory Card Reader supports CF cards. Both of them are larger and more expensive than the Cable Matters model we recommend, lack indicator lights, and have an extra Memory Stick slot that most people don’t need.
Four-bit SD bus mode: Uses extra pins plus some reassigned pins. This is the same protocol as the one-bit SD bus mode which uses one command and four data lines for faster data transfer. All SD cards support this mode. UHS-I and UHS-II require this bus type.
There are 2 options I am aware of: use the Win 10 option to back out the upgrade and go back to the last OS, or buy a new external card reader that plugs into a USB port [and live without the built-in card slot]. The Insignia NS-DCR30A2 USB 3.0 Multiformat Memory Card Reader I bought at Best Buy also works with USB 2 and reads my cards up to and including the 64GB SDXC. (An older external reader I had would not handle the 32 and 64GB cards.)

The Iogear is about an inch skinnier and a half inch longer than the Unitek, measuring in at 3 by 1.6 by 0.5 inches. SDHC card: This card has the same form factor as an SD card, with specifications that define SDHC card capacities from 4 GB to 32 GB. These devices were developed to tackle high-definition video and high-resolution images. Like most memory card formats, SD is covered by numerous patents and trademarks. Royalties for SD card licences are imposed for manufacture and sale of memory cards and host adapters (US$1,000/year plus membership at US$1,500/year), but SDIO cards can be made without royalties.
The SD specification defines four-bit-wide transfers. (The MMC specification supports this and also defines an eight-bit-wide mode; MMC cards with extended bits were not accepted by the market.) Transferring several bits on each clock pulse improves the card speed. Advanced SD families have also improved speed by offering faster clock frequencies and double data rate (explained here) in a high-speed differential interface (UHS-II).
When you insert a memory card, it is automatically mounted (connected to the device) and prepared for use. However, should you unmount the card without removing it from the device, you will need to mount it before it can be accessed.

The nonvolatile memory express (NVMe) protocol is a specification that permits an SSD to exploit the PCIe bus. NVMe operates at the host controller to define the command set and feature set needed to streamline the I/O stack. The aim is to enable PCIe-based SSDs to deliver low latency, higher throughput, and to consume less power when compared to SAS or SATA SSDs.
NOR memory has an external address bus for reading and programming. For NOR memory, reading and programming are random-access, and unlocking and erasing are block-wise. For NAND memory, reading and programming are page-wise, and unlocking and erasing are block-wise.
PCIe-based SSDs are designed around Peripheral Component Interconnect Express, a high-speed expansion card format that connects a computer with its attached peripherals. PCIe has a point-to-point architecture, allowing each device to connect to a host via its own serial link, rather than by sharing a network bus. By virtue of this direct connection, PCIe SSDs are generally rated to deliver higher performance than server-based Serial Advance Technology Attachment (SATA), Serial-Attached SCSI (SAS) or Fibre Channel (FC) SSDs.
Anecdotal evidence suggests NAND flash drives are not wearing out to the degree once feared. Flash drive manufacturers have improved endurance and reliability through error correction code algorithms, wear leveling and other technologies.
This article seems leaned towards USB-C which I feel remains a newer standard that most computer owners don’t have or need yet. Mac and PC’s are so powerful these days that there is less incentive to upgrade to newer models, especially as Apple annoyingly continues to get rid of all ports. There should be more options for the “traditional” USB ports section. For example, @99EE:disqus and @kinnonyee:disqus have pointed out that Lexar Professional Workflow SR2 was not included in the review, although it has rave reviews on Amazon and B&H.
Unlike our other picks, the IOGear lacks an indicator light, so you can’t see when your card is connected or a transfer is underway at a glance. Commonly found on the market are mislabeled or counterfeit Secure Digital cards that report a fake capacity or run slower than labeled. Software tools exist to check and detect counterfeit products.
